Areas of Interest: The Lynch Foundation does not sponsor events or fund individuals. Most of the Foundation’s charitable activities are channeled to:

  • Endowment grants
  • Program grants
  • Challenge grants
  • Capacity building grants

Notable Projects/Programs:

The Lynch Foundation has also worked alongside other non-profit institutions whose programs are akin to or have potential impact on the Foundation’s goals. Posse Boston has been collaborating with the Lynch Foundation in addressing issues in the educational front since 2000. Posse Boston also provides scholarship grants for bright college students in the Boston areas. With the assistance of the Lynch Foundation, more than 250 students have enrolled in Boston’s elite colleges and universities.

In pursuit of their efforts to help Catholic schools in Massachusetts survive, last year the Lynch Foundation guaranteed $120,000 to the St. Joseph School, a Catholic school in Salem, MA. Along with the financial aid, the Lynch Foundation also gave out 30 scholarships – each one worth $2,000 in terms of financial assistance.

The Lynch Foundation has also endowed $500,000 to the University of Massachusetts for its Nursing PhD program, which is designed to train nurses for cancer nursing care and research in health policy.

Aside from education and health programs, the Lynch Foundation is also an active supporter in community projects that promote community involvement, as well as profit for the community. The Charles River Skatepark, a $2.3 million facility for bikers and skaters, has been heavily supported by the Lynch Foundation. The Foundation gave $100,000 for the park’s improvement costs.

Founded by Peter and Barbara Lynch in 1988, the Lynch Foundation primarily serves the Massachusetts area with emphasis on education, healthcare and medical research, arts and culture, preservation and restoration of historical sites, and the continuance of the operations of Catholic schools, including improvement of the quality of their education and facilities.

By 2003, the Lynch Foundation expanded and gained $74 million in assets. Aside from giving donations through the Foundation, on some occasions the Lynches give out directly to recipients.

Trivia:

The Lynch Foundation started out with a $100 reserve.
