More about The Bacardi Family Foundation:
Bacardi Family Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the family who owns Bacardi Limited, the largest privately owned spirits company in the world.
A tangible example of the Bacadi Family Foundation's philanthropy is Casa Bacardi. Worth $1 million, Casa Bacardi is a gift of the foundation to the Institute for Cuban and Cuban-American Studies at the University of Miami. Located at the school's campus in Coral Gables, Casa Bacardi showcases Cuba's rich culture and history.
One of the standouts in the center is The Music Pavilion. Here visitors may listen to more than 2,000 digital songs by Cuban musicians from Celia Cruz to Dámaso Perez Prado, including singers from the 1800s. The Music Pavilion also has a collection of works by Cuban comedians such as Guillermo Alvarez Guedes and Luis Carbonell.
Beyond music, visitors could find more about Cuba at the Cuban Information Center. Apart from a plethora of books, the Information Center holds a compendium of electronic data on the country, including US-Cuba relations, Fidel Castro's speeches, and so forth. On any of its six computer stations, visitors could peruse images of Cuba and take a test on Cuban history and culture.
Bacardi Family Foundation derives its financial clout from Bacardi Limited, whose history can be traced down to the very origin of the premium white rum.
The Bacardi Family legacy descends from Don Facundo Bacardi Massó of Santiago de Cuba. Don Facundo Bacardi Massó, the founder of Bacardi's world famous Cuba rum, concocted the first premium aged white rum in the world, BACARDI Superior Rum. In 1862, Don Facundo experimented with an exotic yeast strain, La Levadura BACARDI, with which the rum would be made upon subjecting to his unique column distillation and filtration techniques.
Over a century later, BACARDI Superior Rum is still the world's bestselling rum, just one in the company's range of 200 brands, including DEWAR'S Blended Scotch whisky, CAZADORES Blue Agave tequila, MARTINI vermouth, GREY GOOSE vodka, and BOMBAY SAPPHIRE gin.
