The Omidyar Network
Founder: Pierre Omidyar
Pierre Omidyar founded eBay Incorporated in 1995, an Internet company that supervises eBay.com, one of world’s first online auction websites. An American with Iranian heritage, Pierre Omidyar has catapulted eBay.com to its lucrative status. The company has earned him billions already. Spurred by the success of eBay.com, Pierre Omidyar, together with his wife Pam, established the Omidyar Network, an organization whose aim is to make people realize their potential and pursue social significance and community involvement.

Projects/Programs:
- In May 13, 2008, Legatum, a Dubai-based international investment organization and the Omidyar Network invested $40 million in the Unitus Equity Fund II, a private equity fund that is focused on the destitute.
- In May 12, 2008, the Rural Development Institute announced that it received $4.3 million from the Network to aid its endeavors in securing land rights for the impoverished of Andhra Pradesh.

The Omidyar Network is structured to include social, business, and government sectors. The Network is composed of a Limited Liability Company and a 501(c)(3) body through which it conducts its philanthropic movements.
The Network supports and aids other institutions that create opportunities for people to succeed in their chosen endeavors. To date, the Omidyar Network has helped in providing the necessary resources (finance and information, among others) to their partners. Some partners, with their specific functions, are listed below:
- Ashoka - A global organization of entrepreneurs, Ashoka provides funding and other resources to budding businesses and small-time entrepreneurs.
- Brdigestar - A Bridgespan Group project, this program trains future non-profit organization leaders with content tools, leadership and organization skills, and other leadership training modules.
- KaBOOM! – In its aims to promote civic awareness and responsibilities, KaBOOM! works with several communities in designing their own playground, recreation sites, and other athletic venues.
- Modest Needs - This organization helps struggling families by providing financial aid to cover unexpected expenses.
- V2V - A network of civic volunteers whose primary aim is to promote their social and community services by connecting with others who share the same interests.
The Omidyar Network has other partners that coordinate with its philanthropic endeavors. These partners are well established in their respective fields: global communications, banking and investments, as well as web-based marketing. All in all, the Omidyar Network has a total of 69 partners (including those listed above).
