Charles G. Koch is a multi-billionaire and is currently the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Koch Industries, positions entrusted to him since 1967. The Koch Industries expanded under his leadership and has spawned numerous brands with high degrees of popularity. Such brands include STAINMASTER® carpet, LYCRA® spandex, Quilted Northern® tissue and Dixie® cups and tableware.

Charles G. Koch, aside from his dealings in the corporate world, is also an active proponent for the advancement of social progress and technology in order to better the lives of other people. He believes that with greater economic freedom, societies flourish and gives its people more options to succeed in life. Such philosophy led to the birth of the Science of Liberty. Charles G. Koch founded the Charles G. Koch Charitable Foundation in 1980, under the ideals of the Science of Liberty.

Notable projects/programs:

Operating under the philosophy of the Science of Liberty, the Charles G. Koch Charitable Foundations aims to usher social progress through education and research programs that are geared towards promoting the well-being of the individual in particular and mankind in general. The Foundation has funded several institutions (two are listed below) in pursuit of this aim:

  • Cato Institute – the Cato Institute fosters active participation of the learned and intelligent members of society in their goal to promote and broaden the concepts of individual liberty, free markets, and peace. Currently, the Cato Institute is critical of the US government’s policies on issues such as Social Security, global warming, and immigration.
  • Institute for Humane Studies – a libertarian non-profit organization that aids undergraduate and graduate students. It identifies bright and young libertarian students from universities all over the world and develops them into libertarian academics and intellectuals. The IHS annually releases $400,000 in scholarship grants to aid their selected participants.

Aside from funding other non-profit organizations, the Charles G. Koch Charitable Family Foundations established the Koch Associate Program to train and develop meticulously screened entrepreneurs and potential leaders who want to further their knowledge in market-based management and policy building.
