More about The Getty Foundation:

One of the richest art institutions in the world, The J. Paul Getty Trust, is also a fulltime philanthropic organization. Its philanthropic entity, the Getty Foundation, is a generous financier of programs and activities advocating the visual arts, let alone their conservation. It aims to ease access to museums and art institutions and train potential leaders in these fields by utilizing grants in art preservation, and education.

Research grants have continually been funded by the foundation, apart from those in art conservation such as the Conservation of Works of Art grants. For the conservation of buildings and architectural feats, the foundation's Architectural Conservation Grants are in order. Meanwhile, Education and Training Grants are means for conservators and museums to optimally transmit their knowledge to later generations.

One outstanding initiative for conservation efforts undertaken by The Getty Foundation was the Fund for New Orleans. It is a $2 million fund to benefit visual arts institutions affected by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

The foundation also has Education and Professional Development grants, designed to assist professional organizations across the globe with vested interests in the arts or the history thereof. Such grants are also offering internships for undergraduates and graduates at both the Getty Center and similar institutions in the Los Angeles metropolis.

GLI or the Getty Leadership Institute is the wing of the Getty Foundation that answers the professional development requirements of prospective leaders in the field of visual arts. Since 1979, visual arts professionals from across the planet have taken advantage of the institute's programs, especially the MLI: The Museum Leadership Institute. The said program has honed the skills of museum managers from middle levels to seniority, among other individuals.

Based in Los Angeles, California, the Getty Trust is a multibillion dollar organization founded by the late American oil magnate J. Paul Getty to expand the collection of the J. Paul Getty Museum. From a small antiquities collection in 1954, the Getty Museum has grown to include premier holdings like those by Rembrandt and van Gogh.

Aside from a museum, The Getty Trust operates the Getty Center, a complex of institutes dedicated to art history and museum leadership including the Getty Research Institute and the Getty Conservation Institute.

The trust has over $5 billion in assets today.
