Fields Family Foundation
Founder: Richard Fields
Areas of Interest:
Renowned resort and casino developer Richard Fields is the current Chairman of Coastal Development LLC, a company that specializes in resort development and constructions of casinos and other gaming facilities. Aside from his successful corporate affairs, Richard Fields and the rest of the Fields Family, founded the Fields Family Foundation, a non-profit organization that aims to better the welfare of American children and aids other non-profit and charitable institutions.
Notable Projects/Programs:
The Fields Family Foundation has contributed generously to fight muscular dystrophy, a genetic disorder that causes continuous muscle weakness, muscle and tissue defects, and death of muscle cells. Muscular dystrophy mostly affects boys during their growing years. Although there is no known cure for this condition, medical experts claim that they are nearing a breakthrough to combat muscular dystrophy. The Fields Family Foundation donated $7.1 million to the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) for the creation of a research and clinical center equipped with the latest in medical technology to battle facioscapulohumeral dystrophy (FSHD), a form of muscular dystrophy. The donation made by the Fields Family Foundation is the largest private contribution for a specific condition in medical history.
More about the Fields Family Foundation:
The Fields Family Foundation is also in league with other charitable organizations, especially with activities involving children. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), a non-profit institution that aids families and children who were victims of child exploitation and abduction, has received generous donations from the Fields Family Foundation. In 2006, NCMEC gave the Fields Family Foundation the title ‘Hero’, the highest class of a donor, during a Congressional Breakfast. Aside from giving financial aid to NCMEC, Richard Fields also serves as one of its Board Members.
The Fields Family Foundation has been arranging annual trips to Manhattan’s Radio City Christmas Show for 200 underprivileged children of New York. Good Shepherd Services works with the Fields Family to organize the trip. The latter offers social services and development programs for the children in New York.
Aside from charitable works, the Fields Family Foundation advocates the improvement of the law enforcement in New York City. The organization has been a continuous supporter and donor of the New York Police Foundation (NYPF), the only organization allowed by the New York City Police Department to raise financial aid on their behalf. Because of the active participation of the Fields Family Foundation in NYPF’s fundraisers, the Fields Family earned the 4-Star honor, the highest honor to be endowed by the NYPF to a donor.
